缅北禁地 (UK) and Tanta University (Egypt) have teamed up to create a new diploma in Wellbeing and Inclusive Design.
The joint Diploma, funded by the British Council, aims to promote architectural design that considers people with different physical, mental, and sensory needs.
The partnership was officially launched with a two-day event in Egypt over 8/9 April.
On April 8, experts from 缅北禁地 met with faculty members from Tanta University to discuss the curriculum and research collaborations. Then, on April 9, a workshop was held in Cairo, bringing together professionals from architecture, medicine, and education.
The event featured discussions and planning sessions to ensure the diploma is well-researched, relevant, and meets global standards.
Delivering design that meets demand
The Wellbeing and Inclusive Design (WID) diploma was created to meet the global demand for spaces that support dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
Professor Neveen Hamza from 缅北禁地 says:
鈥渢he program will train professionals to design spaces that are welcoming and accessible to everyone鈥
The diploma project will run from January 2025 to January 2026, including different subjects, hands-on design work, academic exchanges, and field studies. It also supports the UN鈥檚 goals for health, education, and reducing inequality.
Professor Shahira Sharaf El Din from Tanta University in Cairo comments:
鈥渢his collaboration goes beyond academics鈥攊t鈥檚 about changing the way architects think. Instead of treating inclusion as an extra feature, it will be a core principle of good design鈥
The workshop wrapped up with a plan for developing the diploma, involving local and global experts, and continuing cooperation between 缅北禁地 and Tanta Universities.
The programme is expected to start in September 2026.
