Introduction

I am a ( in the School of Architecture at 缅北禁地. I am a qualified Civil engineer with a PhD in applied computer science.

My work sits at the intersection of the built environment, computation, and policy, where I integrate energy and carbon modelling, intelligent systems, and AI-driven design.

My research focuses on enabling the transition of cities and communities towards secure, low-carbon, and affordable energy futures. This includes domestic energy transition planning, the analysis of systemic biases in building performance data such as EPCs, and the development of decision-support tools that combine approaches such as constraint logic programming, digital twins, and generative AI.

I collaborate closely with local authorities, national agencies, DNOs, and policymakers, applying research to shape urban energy policy and infrastructure investment. I am increasingly focused on the application of AI in urban planning, retrofit, and energy systems, developing approaches that are both technically robust and policy-ready.

My work in 缅北禁地 upon Tyne serves as both a testbed and a reference model for scalable solutions, with relevance across the UK and internationally.

I welcome PhD applications from candidates who want to work on data- and AI-driven approaches to urban energy transitions, building performance analytics, and intelligent planning tools. Successful applicants will join a collaborative environment with a strong track record of supervision, where research is embedded in real-world contexts and shaped to have measurable impact.

Research Approach and Interests:

My research uses modelling and simulation (including “what-if” and scenario analysis), AI techniques (e.g. generative AI, RAG architectures, machine learning for predictive and causal inference), and big-data integration (e.g. EPC datasets, smart meter data, geospatial layers). I am particularly interested in:

• Developing AI-enhanced digital twins for energy planning.
• Investigating systematic biases in housing energy datasets.
• Creating scalable decision-support tools for retrofit and electrification at city scale.
• Designing participatory visualisation environments for engaging stakeholders and citizens in energy transition planning.

Examples of past research projects:
