- Gender, work and employment relations
- Gender, careers and the workplace
- Equality and diversity, equal opportunities, diversity management
- Living wage campaigns and community organising
Ana is an Associate Editor for the journals Sociology and Feminism and Organization. She is an Associate Academic Fellow of the CIPD and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Ana Lopes is a passionate advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion, and her work sits at the intersection of gender, work, and employment relations. Her research investigates how inequalities are produced, experienced, and challenged within organisations, with a particular interest in improving the working lives of women in sectors where they remain under‑represented.
Ana was a co‑investigator on an ESRC‑funded project examining the mentoring needs of women working in aviation and aerospace. This work resulted in the creation of alta, an award‑winning mentoring platform designed to support and advance the careers of professional women across the sector. The project has won an ESRC Research Impact prize.
Her current research explores how parents and carers organise collectively within workplaces to advocate for their rights, shape organisational policies, and influence the wider employment relationship. She also examines how employees act as internal change agents, mobilising grassroots initiatives, challenging organisational norms, and driving change from within.
Ana’s work is published in books and leading international academic journals, contributing to debates on gender equality, employee voice, and the dynamics of organisational change.
