Research interests
Research interests focus on the structural, mechanical, and biological behaviour of dental hard tissues, with particular emphasis on dentine erosion, erosive tooth wear, and age-related changes in dentine. Current work combines advanced imaging and nanoscale analytical techniques to investigate early tissue degradation and clinically relevant intervention thresholds.
Completed a PhD in 2024, investigating early dentine erosion (erosive tooth wear) following dietary acid exposure using novel atomic force microscopy (AFM) methodologies alongside scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). This work explored nanoscale structural and mechanical changes occurring during the earliest stages of erosive tooth wear and contributed to improving the understanding and detection of early dentine erosion.
Masters research project investigated the clinical and radiographic outcomes of Calcium Hydroxide compared with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate in vital pulp therapy procedures.
Current and developing research interests:
- Dentine erosion and erosive tooth wear
- Dietary, intrinsic, and vaping-related acid challenges
- Protective effects of saliva on erosive tooth wear
- Age-related structural and mechanical changes in dentine
- Nanoscale biomechanics of dental hard tissues
- Advanced imaging and analytical techniques in oral research
- Translational oral health research
- Digital and technology-enhanced approaches within dentistry, including intra-oral scanning technologies
