Background

I have been a Research Associate / Senior Research Associate in the School of Engineering since 2002. My research interests are related to mine water characterisation, the source, transport and fate of metals in river catchments and the design and performance of nature-based (passive) systems for metal mine drainage remediation. I have been lead researcher on numerous Defra-funded mine water treatment research and innovation projects and also worked on the NERC-funded project “Legacy Wastes in the Coastal Zone: Environmental Risks and Management Futures”, investigating the mobility of pollutants from legacy wastes deposited within the coastal zone.

I have undertaken a range of consultancy work for national and international organisations including Solid Energy New Zealand Ltd, UK Coal Ltd, Maltby Colliery Ltd, Sherburn Stone Co Ltd, EasiGeothermal Ltd, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT)
