Research
National Hub for Decarbonised, Adaptable, and Resilient Transport Infrastructures (DARe):
- Conduct a case study on the impacts of extreme weather on mass participation events using the example of the 2023 Great North Run event as a case study.
- Conduct user research with project partners, including transport operators, councils, and government bodies.
Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub (funded by UKRI’s Global Challenge Research Fund):
- Co-developed and delivered training courses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for our partners in Malaysia, including academia, regional and local water management stakeholders.
- Designed a spatio-temporal dashboard solution for monitoring water quality for our partners at the Water Land and Resource Centre in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
PhD research:
Following the systems engineering design, my work integrates (near-) real-time weather, hydrological and transport data to support multi-agencies in incident management and flood impact assessment.
Topics:
- Dynamic flood hazard maps
- Computer vision algorithms for image analysis
- System of systems
- Smart cities, digital twins
Projects:
- I was a project officer for a UK Space Agency-funded project exploring the application of satellite imagery for emergency services during different stages of incident management.
- I designed and developed a Highways Major Incident Dashboard prototype for a county council helping to respond to extreme weather events.
- For a utility network operator in the UK, I implemented a GIS-based dashboard to visualise various faults.
- As part of a citizen science project, I developed a GIS application with analytical capabilities to assess the impact of earthquakes in different geographic locations.
