Area of Expertise

Jocelyn Mawdsley’s research focuses on European, British, French, and German security policies from a political economy perspective. She examines defence and security technologies, industries, trade and regulation. She is a co-editor of the journal European Security (Taylor and Francis). She has experience of writing policy reports for the European Commission and Parliament as well as for national ministries of defence. She is currently working on a funded project on European defence spending in the light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine with colleagues from PRIO in Norway.

Research Interests

EU Common Security and Defence Policy, the arms trade and disarmament, IPE of security, British, French and German security policy

Current Work

My research is centred on the intersection of European defence, industrial and science policies, and I am currently working on a funded project on European defence spending in the light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine with colleagues from PRIO in Norway. I continue to publish on British, French and German security policies. I am co-editor of the journal European Security.
