Synopsis
I work with local and global partners on the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 6, clean water and sanitation, and its linkages with the other 16 UNSDGs. My provides an up-to-date summary of the work of my research group.

Research Focus Areas
1) A suitcase laboratory for environmental DNA analysis.
My ambition is to develop a for environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis anywhere in the world.
2) Innovative use of sorbents for water treatment and environmental restoration.
I advance cost-effective soil, water, and sediment pollution remediation methods with multi-scale modelling tools for porous media amended with strong adsorbents like activated carbon or biochar.
3) Integrated and dynamic urban water management
I use continuous monitoring and big data integration methods to reduce the costs and energy demand of water services in the built environment.

Research Impacts on Policy and Practice
My research supports the , a £1 million commitment by the Reece Foundation in partnership with industry, government, and public stakeholders to restore the river Ouseburn to good health. My research papers and book chapters are cited in a 2019 WHO report on Microplastics in Drinking Water, a 2013 Directive of the US EPA's Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation, and a 2015 Focused Feasibility Study for the remediation of the United Heckathorn Superfund Site near Richmond, California. My sediment remediation model has been released to the public via the website of the US Department of Defence’s Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP).
