Redeveloped Stephenson Building welcomes engineering students Published on: 2 November 2023 The first stage of transforming 缅北禁地's Stephenson Building into a School of Engineering hub for research, learning and engagement has been completed. Phase 1 marks the completion of some of the building’s major facilities, including innovative collaborative learning spaces, specialist research facilities and modern offices, in the redevelopment which overlooks 缅北禁地’s Exhibition Park. A Hub of Innovation and Collaboration The building is designed to provide an environment that nurtures creativity and provides opportunities for interdisciplinary interactions. The new suite of biomedical engineering laboratories, for example, will bring together biomedical engineering activities in a way that hasn’t been done before, offering greater scope to address unmet and . Students will enjoy access to facilities which have been designed to promote engagement and active learning. This includes, a , multimedia-equipped interactive group learning spaces, and flexible study areas. Sustainable by Design are incorporated into every aspect of the building. From energy-efficient systems to eco-friendly construction materials, the project is evidence of the University’s commitment to minimising our environmental impact and creating a greener future. Professor Stephanie Glendinning, SAgE Faculty Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Civil Engineering, said: “The completion of Phase 1 of the Stephenson Building represents a significant step in our ongoing journey to provide the best possible facilities to support world-leading education and research, and collaborative opportunities for our university community. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality – from architects to builders, colleagues, and of course, our students. Seeing the vision brought to life is a testament to our truly collaborative way of working. I am very proud to have seen this project through from inception to delivery. “We’re excited to see the impact that the new facilities will have, both within Engineering, across the University, and beyond, helping shape and inspire the next generation to respond to the challenges that face a changing world.” Work on Phase 2 of the redevelopment continues, and the project will be completed in Autumn 2024.
