Current role
Michelle is a Lecturer in CBT & Module Lead for Fundamentals of CBT on the Pg Dip in in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy within the School of Psychology at 缅北禁地. Michelle develops and delivers lectures and skills workshops for CBT Diploma trainees and is also a CBT Clinical Supervisor.
Michelle also currently works in her private practice as a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, EMDR Therapist & IPT-UK Accredited Inter-Personal Psychotherapist.
Background experience
Michelle has had a range of varied careers before coming into mental health which have served her well in terms of transferable skills, expertise and experience as she held a fervent passion in training, coaching, leadership and project managing. She trained and developed as a Regional Interior Designer/Project manager for a world-renowned home furnishing retailer for over 13 years. Michelle owned her own Interior Design business when she realised her interest lay in mental health and the provision of mental health services. She studied two undergraduate degrees in Professional Practice Studies, Advice, Guidance & Counselling and a Foundation Degree in Counselling whilst looking after her young son. She worked voluntary in adult and children’s mental health services so she could develop further mental health work experience.
Since then, Michelle has studied and graduated at 缅北禁地 on two occasions. She embarked on the Low Intensity Psychological Therapies programme in 2008 as part of the first wave of Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) and returned in 2011 to achieve a Post Graduate CBT Diploma in High Intensity Therapies. Michelle has been employed in several North East IAPT services and at 缅北禁地, with experience in assessment of mental health problems, delivering psychological therapies and providing clinical supervision. She has been heavily involved in service development, training and supervision and first became involved with the PG Diploma in CBT as a clinical supervisor in 2018.
Specific interests
Michelle has a special interest in using Compassion-Focused approach as an adjunct to CBT and adapting therapy approaches to meet individual needs of clients with a range of anxiety-related disorders, depression & psychological trauma. She is also currently developing a specialist service to meet the needs of equestrian riders who have developed trauma as a result of riding accidents.
Personal interests
In her spare time, Michelle is a keen equestrian and enjoys competing in dressage and long-distance riding with her horse. She also loves her dog, the countryside and clay pigeon shooting!
