A powerful language of inequality informs the Brexit/Trump phenomenon, with language of ‘left behinds’, ‘elites’, ‘racial inequalities’, and class. This lecture offered a more nuanced sociological perspective, seeking to unravel the longer-term processes, ambivalences and complexities.
