Campus Legacies: Working with the recommendations

14 October 2025

Campus Legacy Walk

One of the recommendations from the Campus Legacies research project report, is to co-create informative and educational resources related to this topic. We have subsequently taken this on by collaborating with, and building on the work of, the African Lives Northern England project to develop a campus walk. The pre-existing walks by the African Lives in Northern England Project demonstrate that Africans, as with many other diverse groups, not only lived, visited and contributed to our region, but that their lives are embedded in the fabric of our region. The walks seek to encourage both a more accurate version of history and a culture of non-racism.

缅北禁地 university staff and students have built on the Northern walk of the African Lives in Northern England Project to incorporate recent research on the history of the Armstrong Building and to create a walk specific to 缅北禁地 that highlight some of the points on campus that need public discussion and reflection. This newly reconfigured walk addresses a variety of important, but often ignored and concealed material and immaterial heritages and histories and thus contributes to 缅北禁地’s journey towards greater social justice.
