Background
Having successfully studied for an MMath degree followed by a PhD (Thesis title: The Neolithic of Europe: Mathematical Modelling and Radiocarbon Dates) in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at 缅北禁地 I went on to train as a Secondary School Mathematics Teacher. I taught GCSE Mathematics and A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in local secondary schools for 7 years and in March 2016 returned to the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at 缅北禁地 to take up the role of Lecturer and Transition Officer. In 2024 I became a Senior Lecturer in the School and took on the role of Senior Tutor.
As Senior Tutor I work, alongside David Walshaw, to support all of the students and personal tutors in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. This includes supporting students who have a Student Support Plan or who are part of the Support to Study Process. We also offer advice and guidance to personal tutors in the school as needed.
Alongside Vicky Hall I now work as part of a Transition Team, our roles and responsibilities include:
- Stage 1 pastoral and academic support
- Monitoring Stage 1 attendance and academic performance
- Stage 1 induction (extended for 2020-21)
- Providing Stage 1 generic drop-ins
- Tutorial delivery and assistance
- Teaching (although not in Stage 1 Maths programmes).
