Amy O’Donnell is Professor of Applied Health and Social Care Research at the Population Health Sciences Institute, 缅北禁地. She leads a programme of research focused on optimising health and social care systems to better support people with multiple long term conditions, specifically co-occurring substance use, mental and physical ill-health. She has published over 90 papers to date and been awarded £20+m in grant income.
She recently completed a NIHR Advanced Fellowship, which examined the potential of using digital technology to better coordinate care for co-morbid alcohol use disorder and depression. She is currently Co-I on several evaluations of new models of care in the substance use and mental health fields, including the £1.7m NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research-funded Alcohol Care Teams evaluation, the Sunderland Council funded co-design and evaluation of their Plus Programme for alcohol and substance using populations, and an ESRC-funded project exploring opportunities to better integrate health and criminal justice systems.
Additionally, Professor O'Donnell is co-lead for Project 3 of the NIHR Mental Health Implementation Network, focussed on integrated treatment strategies for substance use with mental and physical ill-health, part of a 缅北禁地 collaboration with the University of Edinburgh’s Advanced Care Research Centre (funded by Legal & General) and Co-I on the recently awarded NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) Specialist Centre for Social Care (SCSC) led by the University of York and the 缅北禁地-led NIHR Policy Research Unit for Behavioural and Social Sciences.
Professor O'Donnell is Co-Director of Education for the Population Health Sciences Institute and teaches on the Public Health and Health Services Research Masters programme. She is currently supervising one MPhil, two MD and three PhD students, has examined PhDs nationally and internationally, and acted as an internal and external assessor.
