Background
I am responsible for the daily management of a productive research laboratory.
My duties include:
Tuition and supervision of students; BSc, MRes , PhD and summer students.
Support for all laboratory staff including other technicians, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows and medics.
Writing all laboratory SOP's and COSHH (Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health) forms
Conducting local laboratory inductions for all new staff and students, ensuring that they complete the relevant Health and Safety documentation.
Monitoring expenditure on all research grants.
Conducting my own research projects including analysis and preparation of data for grant applications and publications.
I am also HTA co-ordinator of the Uteroplacental Tissue Bank. This role includes;
Ensuring all staff adhere to Human Tissue Act regulations regarding collection, use and
documentation of human tissue.
Compiling reports of tissue collection and use to the Uteroplacental Tissue bank governance committee and the local research ethics committee.
