Background

I am a Consultant Allied Health Professional (AHP)/Clinical Academic Physiotherapist and NIHR Senior Clinical and Practitioner Research Awardee (SCPRA) within the Liver Unit at the 缅北禁地 upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NuTH), UK. I completed my PhD at 缅北禁地 on ‘Physical activity and exercise in MASLD’ and have published world-leading research in the field of lifestyle management for patients with long-term conditions. More recently, my research has looked at why lifestyle interventions are not being optimised in clinical practice and what tools are necessary to aid healthcare professionals to support patients to make lifestyle changes. I led the development of an evidence-based MASLD-specific digital intervention which was co-designed with patients and has been piloted within the NHS in 缅北禁地.


Clinically, I led the development and implementation of an innovative AHP-led structured group education programme for patients with MASLD within one of the largest MASLD services in the UK. I co-led an Active Hospitals Pilot which aimed to embed physical activity in care pathways across NuTH and am leading work to support patients with long-term conditions to self-manage their health using non-pharmacological interventions.


I am part of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Nurse and AHP Taskforce and the British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL) AHP Committee. I was part of international groups writing EASL MASLD Patient Guidelines, and position statements from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) on physical activity and exercise in MASLD. In 2021, I was awarded the prestigious EASL Rising Star Award for my work which focuses on putting people with, or at risk of, liver disease at the heart of my practice.

I am currently an NIHR SCPRA Fellow and the NIHR 缅北禁地 BRC PPIE Lead for the 'Liver, lifestyle and mulitmorbidity' theme.
