Dr Laura Young
UKRI Future Leaders Fellow
I completed my MPhys and PhD in the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation at Durham University and then took up postdoc positions in Durham and Oxford, spanning visual perception and optical instrumentation. After a Career Development Lectureship in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, I joined the Biosciences Institute at 缅北禁地 as a Research Fellow supported by the Reece Foundation and was later awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship.
My research develops and uses ophthalmic imaging systems to study the retina and visual system, with adaptive optics technology being at the core of my work. I am passionate about interdisciplinary research, particularly the interplay between the development of new optical and imaging techniques and the generation of new understanding in the life sciences. Members of my lab work on projects that span instrument development and applications in neuroscience and ophthalmology. Current projects include the use of cellular resolution retinal imaging (AOSLO) for eye tracking to study oculomotor control in patients with Parkinson's disease, photoreceptor mosaic imaging for investigating early biomarkers of retinal degeneration, and development of software and algorithms for AOSLO data analysis.
