Background

Introduction

Paula is a Consultant in Public Health by profession. She has been the Quality lead at a Health Authority, Director of Clinical Governance in a large Mental Health Trust, the national lead for the ‘Better Metrics’ project, Clinical Effectiveness Lead at the Healthcare Commission and Chief Information Officer/Deputy Medical Director at a Strategic Health Authority. Paula's current role is as Director of Research, Innovation and Clinical Effectiveness at Northumberland Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust and as the Director of the North East Quality Observatory (NEQOS). As well as being an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at 缅北禁地, Paula is also an Honorary Professor at Durham University.

Research

Research Interests

Paula is no longer an active researcher in her own right but focuses on the strategic development of mental health, learning disability and health services research within her Trust where she is the Director of R&D. In her past role as a part-time Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Health and Society, she worked with Professor Martin Eccles on the Effective Practice research programme, as well as leading the Health and Health Care Policy module on the University’s MSc in Health Sciences. Her specific implementation research interests within the Effective Practice field were: changing professional behaviour in mental health practice, and in chronic disease management practice (particularly diabetes); and the impact of public reporting of performance measures ('metrics') on professional practice and health care outcomes.

Paula teaches on the Health and Health Care Policy module and the Quality in Healthcare module on the MSc in Public Health Sciences.
