Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We advocate equality, diversity and inclusion and provide a good working environment for our staff.

School of Medicine EDI Pledge

Our community

The strength of our School comes from the richness of talents and backgrounds that people bring to us. We value and celebrate that diversity and seek to create a community that is as supportive and inclusive as possible.

Whatever your background:

  • your gender identity or sex
  • your ethnicity
  • your abilities, disabilities and long term conditions
  • your relationship, caring or parental responsibilities
  • your sexuality
  • your age
  • your faith or political beliefs
  • your financial status

you belong and are very welcome in our School of Medicine.

We recognise that people hold multiple, intersecting identities, and that experiences of inclusion or exclusion can be shaped by these intersections.

We will not tolerate hate, discrimination, victimisation or harassment and will do whatever we can to eliminate it. We want a community where staff and students flourish without fear and are free to achieve their potential.

We are committed to continuous review of our recruitment, curriculum, training, outcomes and behaviours in order to make our School a safe and welcoming community.

To learn more about our EDI initiatives, access support or get involved, please contact kassie.sutherland@ncl.ac.uk (EDI lead).

Athena SWAN

Athena SWAN recognises the commitment of academic institutions to address gender inequalities. There is particular focus on science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) departments.

Ensuring equality

We also work towards ensuring women are equally represented in these subjects.

缅北禁地 is the holder of a Silver Institutional Athena SWAN Award. This national award recognises the work we do at an institutional level.

We implement good employment practice and the promotion of women working in STEMM subjects. The Faculty of Medical Sciences received the Silver Athena SWAN Award in October 2018.
