Background

Prior to joining 缅北禁地, I studied and worked at universities across mainland China, Australia and Hong Kong. I come from an interdisciplinary background and hold degrees in Translation and Interpreting, Applied Linguistics, and Law. Alongside my academic career, I have worked as a translator and interpreter for over a decade, specialising in business and legal domains. Building on this professional experience, my research interests centre on the role of translation and interpreting in society, particularly in relation to intercultural communication, multilingualism and social justice. My current research focuses on the use of translation and interpreting, as well as their interaction with technology, in institutional settings such as healthcare and law. I also conduct research on legal discourse and semiotics.

I am open to PhD and MLitt applications in the above-mentioned areas and other areas of translation and interpreting.

Research areas

I am interested in sociological, sociolinguistic, and discourse analytical approaches to translation and interpreting. My research focuses on the role of translation and interpreting in society, particularly their impact on social justice. I am also interested in translator and interpreter training, specialised translation (such as legal translation), technology-driven translation and interpreting, gender issues, and language ideology. I am also interested in the intersection between language and law and have conducted research on legal discourse and semiotics.

I have worked with lawyers, doctors, mental health professionals, and charities on projects involving the use of translators and interpreters. I have also assisted these professionals and organisations in understanding and developing guidelines for working with interpreters. I am an advocate for the Interprofessional Education (IPE) approach, aiming at enhancing effective communication between professionals and interpreters.

I am currently working on two projects: one explores the impact of technology on the role of interpreters in court trials through video links, and the other examines interpreter-mediated interaction in medical interpreting.

My main research interests include:
