DemaNDs Seminar 20th April 2026
DemaNDs Seminar - 20th April 2026
Speaker: Dr Mark Eldridge (缅北禁地)
Presentation title: Towards an NHP model of Dementia with Lewy Bodies’ (abstract below).
Abstract: Mark studied the neurobiology of visual memory for ~15 years at the National Institutes of Health, USA. During this time, he applied chemogenetic and optogenetic techniques to elucidate the neural substrates of categorisation, recognition, and stimulus-reward association in nonhuman primates (NHP). Mark started his lab at 缅北禁地 in 2024, and has begun working towards translational applications for molecular genetic tools. In this talk, Mark will present an idea conceived in discussion with Dan Erskine: how an NHP model of DLB could be developed in order to speed up the testing of future potential therapeutic interventions for this currently incurable disease.
Refreshments will be available in Scafell room (1.05, 1st Floor, Biomedical Research Building, CAV) from 12.00. At the same time, Henry Collingham, TEDI’s Innovation Lead will be giving a short in-person presentation from 12 noon to 12.30pm (a separate outlook calendar invitation has been sent), on the Technology Empowered Dementia Independence (TEDI) Network Plus which is an EPSRC-funded network, based at Northumbria University. The network is launching seed funding opportunities for innovation projects which support the independence of people living with dementia. Henry will outline these opportunities, including the areas of interest, the application process, and the support available to teams and individuals who wish to develop proposals in this research area. The funding call will open in April, with final submissions due in August, for 12-month projects, up to £100k each due to run through 2027.
