Archaeology

Undergraduate

Interpret the past using all forms of available evidence. Develop a wide range of practical and professional skills for careers in the heritage sector and beyond. Our courses involve a wide variety of teaching and learning activities in the classroom, laboratory and in the field.

Masters degrees

Our taught Masters allows you to further develop specialist skills needed for a career in the heritage sector. Follow pathways in Prehistoric Archaeology, Roman Frontier Studies, Classical Greek & Roman Archaeology, Medieval & Byzantine Archaeology, Historical Archaeology and Artefact Studies.

Research degrees

Join our growing community of research students. We offer MPhil and PhD degree to anyone interested in our areas of expertise. Our students have access to our world-class research facilities, extensive collections and are eligible for funding opportunities.

Research-led teaching

Great North Museum

See evidence of the lives of people from the earliest prehistory to the Medieval period at the Great North Museum: Hancock. Learn about known individuals who lived in the area.

Archaeology work in the Wolfson lab.

The Wolfson Archaeology Laboratory is a research and teaching laboratory. It hosts archaeological collections from various sites in the UK.

The School Office is open 08:45-16.00, Monday to Friday.

The Great North Museum

The Shefton Museum collection is housed in the Great North Museum: Hancock. It contains particularly important collections of Classical Greek pottery and armour.
