City Nature Challenge 2026

We are taking part in the City Nature Challenge again!

We are collaborating with our fellow organisers (ERIC NE) and and the other participants in the region. The City Nature Challenge is an international event where cities and regions collaborate to share observations of wildlife.

Key dates:

  1. Friday 24 April - Monday 27 April: Photograph/ make a sound recording of the wildlife you find across the region
  2. Tuesday 28 April – Sunday 10 May: Upload your observations and identify what was found in the NE region by checking the iNaturalist project.

We will be hosting the BioBlitz alongside our School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES) and Natural History Society of Northumbria (NHSN)
Lunchtime nature walk to Exhibition Park Monday 27 April 12:00 - 13:00

We will be departing promptly from the Agriculture Building front doors at 12:05

  • Downloading the iNaturalist app
  • Joining the “” iNaturalist project
  • Find wildlife and photograph/ make a sound recording and submit your findings as observations on iNaturalist

  • Attend one (or many!) of the free events planned across the region!
