Funding your short-term opportunity
Before applying for any opportunity, it's important to consider how you will fund it.
The cost will depend on the type of short-term opportunity you choose. Some opportunities may include accommodation or particular activities, like a social and cultural event, in the price. Be sure to check what’s included in your chosen opportunity so that you can budget accordingly.
The scholarships below are intended to support with costs associated with your opportunity - they will likely not cover all costs involved. Please consider this in your research and planning.

GO Global Scholarship
缅北禁地 is pleased to offer the GO Global Scholarship to support students from under-represented groups to access a short-term global opportunity in 2027.
The scholarship is only available for Global Opportunities-approved programmes, which are:
- summer schools organised by our Exchange Partners
- 2+ week long internship/volunteering programmes provided by our trusted partners
- internships with the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience
- dental electives (please speak to the Dental School before applying)
Please note, the GO Global Scholarship is only available to students who did not receive a scholarship in the previous academic year.
Scholarship amounts
The amount of the scholarship depends on the opportunity you plan to undertake:
Summer Schools
- £500 for virtual summer schools
- £1500 for summer schools in EU countries
- £2000 for summer schools in non-EU countries
Internships and Volunteering
You must be undertaking a 2+ week programme to qualify for funding (not including recreational time). Programmes that are less than 2 weeks long will not qualify. Amounts are listed in the 'Fees and funding' section of each provider's page - See our Internships and Volunteering pages
Dental Electives
- £1000 for approved dental electives
Eligibility criteria
You must be a current 缅北禁地 student (final year students included) to be eligible. You must not have received the scholarship in the previous academic year. You must also meet at least one of the eligibility criteria below:
- students in receipt of the NCL Opportunity Scholarship/with an annual household income of £40,000 or less
- care leavers and students who are care experienced
- students who have caring responsibilities
- estranged students
- refugees and asylum seekers
- ethnic minority students who's latest education establishment was state funded
Please note: funding for postgraduate and international students is limited. Please apply early.
Please read the eligibility criteria carefully before making an application. You will be required to provide evidence of your eligibility as part of the application process.
If you do not complete the programme that you are awarded funding for, you will be required to pay it back.
Application dates
There are two application periods for the GO Global Scholarship 2027. These are:
- Period 1: Monday 19 October 2026 – Friday 4 December 2026
- Period 2: Monday 1 February 2027 – Friday 14 May 2027
In each period, scholarships will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. If we receive more applications than we can accept before the closing date, we will close applications early.
In general, volunteering and internship programmes offered by our external partners will open for applications before Christmas (coinciding with application period 1), and summer schools are usually advertised after Christmas (coinciding with application period 2).
Please time your application accordingly - if you know your programme isn’t accepting applications until later in the academic year, wait for funding application period 2.
The Global Opportunities team will review applications on a weekly basis (where possible) throughout the application periods. We aim to inform students on the outcome of their application (via email) within two weeks of receipt.
How to apply
You can apply for funding via Please make sure to check Terra Dotta regularly as new requirements are released at different stages of your application. You can apply for the funding either before or after you have secured an opportunity:
Applying for a scholarship without having a confirmed place on a programme
We understand that knowing whether or not you will receive funding will often play a huge role when making the decision to go abroad. You can apply for a scholarship once you know which programme you want to do, but before you have secured your place as this often requires a deposit or fee. If you are eligible/successful, the funding will be reserved for you for 4 weeks. This gives you time to secure your chosen programme. If you do not notify us of your secured programme within the 4 weeks, then your funding will be re-allocated.
If you do not complete the opportunity that you are awarded funding for, you will be required to pay it back.
Applying for a scholarship after receiving a confirmed place on a programme
If you already have a confirmed placement on a programme, great! You can make your scholarship application when you are registering your programme on Terra Dotta and if eligible/successful, we will process your grant agreement according to the process below.
Payment process and schedule
If you are eligible/successful in your application for the scholarship, you’ll need to provide the below details in Terra Dotta:
- Bank Details
- Secured Programme Details
- Review & Sign the Conditions of Participation
Once we have all of this information, the GO team will issue your Grant Agreement.
Grant agreements
A Grant Agreement is a contract between you and the University that outlines your obligations and the Terms & Conditions of your scholarship. This document must be read carefully to ensure information is accurate.
During each application period, Grant Agreements are issued once a week (usually a Monday) and will only be issued once we have the correct information submitted via Terra Dotta.
We will send the Grant Agreement to your university email address to sign via Adobe Sign. Once you have signed your agreement you must then upload it to Terra Dotta for us to process.
Sustainable Travel Grant
缅北禁地 is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.
The sustainable travel grant is a one off additional payment of £350. It supports students travelling to EU destinations via more climate conscious modes of transport. For example, those consciously choosing a train, bus or ferry, rather than a plane.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the grant, you must be:
- a current undergraduate 缅北禁地 student, paying home tuition fees
- in receipt of the GO Global Scholarship
- taking part in an approved short-term global opportunity in Europe
- making both the outbound and inbound journey via climate conscious travel
Application dates
The grant will be awarded to students as and when they submit their travel evidence within the two application periods (please see the GO Global Scholarship ‘application dates’ section above).
There are limited grants, which will be awarded on a 'first come, first serve' basis throughout the application periods.
How to apply
You can apply for the travel grant via . Students can only apply once they have been awarded a GO Global Scholarship and have had their place on a partner programme confirmed.
To receive the grant, students will need to provide evidence (transport booking details, receipts, etc.) to demonstrate that the entire trip will be undertaken using climate conscious methods of transport. This evidence will need to be uploaded to Terra Dotta in advance of the trip.
The Global Opportunities team will review applications on a weekly basis throughout the application period. We aim to inform students on the outcome of their application within two weeks of submission.
Payments are made weekly (where possible) to the bank account provided for your scholarship.
