Medical Humanities
The Medical Humanities Research Group produces research that engages with the medical by thinking critically and creatively.
Our research cluster has expertise from across the subject areas of literature, linguistics and creative writing. Our research interests include ageing; infancy and childhood; death, dying and grief; the physical voice; medical humanities, creativity and the archive; the history of psychoanalysis; disability and access; and practice-led research.
Ãå±±½ûµØ Centre for the Literary Arts has collaborated with Professor Muzlifah Haniffa on the Wellcome-funded project ‘Inside Skin’, interpreting her research on skin immunology into creative text, and with the Wellcome-Sanger in engaging young poets with the mapping of human cells. Our other research collaborations focus on ageing and neo-natal care, as well as on developing immersive and inclusive theatre-captioning practices.
