I am passionate about supporting other students through the transition to university life, so being a Peer Mentor was a natural extension of something I genuinely enjoy – to help others navigate challenges and discover their potential.
After being a Peer Mentor in 2025/26, I am now the Senior Peer Mentor for Computing Sciences. As Senior Peer Mentor, my role is to both support Peer Mentors and mentees in my school. My key responsibilities include supporting the mentoring scheme through promotion, including highlighting the benefits of being a Peer Mentor and supporting Peer Mentors by answering their questions, sharing best practices and identifying common student needs. I also assist the School of Computing's Peer Mentor Coordinator and the University's central mentoring team to keep everything aligned and effective.
This role lets me combine the skills I developed as a Peer Mentor with new challenges in leadership, planning and organisation.
The transition from secondary school to university can be difficult. Some students are going to their local university, whilst others are moving countries, so one conversation between a Peer Mentor and a Mentee can have a profound impact. My role as Senior Peer Mentor allows me to scale that impact, to help more students by strengthening the entire mentoring network, not just working one-to-one. It is rewarding to move into a position where I can support other students in supporting others.
