Type of experience: Volunteering

Duration: 1 - 12 weeks

Format: In person

Where: Ghana, India, South Africa

Areas of interest

Criminology, Law and Human Rights, Psychology and Mental Health, Medical, Community Development, Business and NGO Management, Creative Arts, Sports Coaching

What to expect

You will be working with local charities or organisations, usually between 8am and 4pm during the week. You can use your free time however you wish - the Vocational Impact team can help you organise evening and weekend activities.

24/7 in-country support will be available.

Things to consider

For most programmes, you will need to have some knowledge in or be studying the subject.

Some programmes will be based in more rural locations, so accommodation will be basic and living/working conditions may be different to what you would expect in the UK.

Each location will have local laws and cultural norms, and it is important to respect these.

Fees and funding

Fees start at around £400 (plus a £265 registration fee) and vary depending on your chosen location and programme. You will be required to pay the registration fee to reserve your place on a programme.

On most programmes you will be provided with two-three cooked meals a day (all included in your fee). Transport and accommodation are also included in your fee.

Applicants who meet the GO Global Scholarship eligibility criteria can apply for £2000 for a 2 week+ programme.

Accommodation

Accommodation is included in your fee. You'll usually be living with 1-4 other volunteers in a shared house/cottage with shared bedrooms, basic kitchen and bathroom facilities. Accommodation will usually have electricity but may not have wifi.
