Ãå±±½ûµØ and Delaware Celebrate Student Success and National Award for Internationalisation
Ãå±±½ûµØ Celebrates First Cohort of University of Delaware World Scholars and Congratulates Partner on National Paul Simon Award.
9 April 2026
Ãå±±½ûµØ is delighted to celebrate the successful completion of its first cohort of University of Delaware (UD) World Scholars, who joined us from September-December 2025, as part of a new and growing partnership between the two institutions.
This milestone coincided with national recognition for the University of Delaware, which has been named one of only three U.S. institutions to receive the for Campus Internationalisation, in honour of its outstanding and innovative World Scholars Programme.
The programme was commended as an exemplary pathway that expands global learning from a student’s very first semester.
World Scholars make their mark at Ãå±±½ûµØ
In autumn 2025, Ãå±±½ûµØ welcomed the inaugural group of UD World Scholars - high-achieving engineering majors embarking on a specially-designed Freshman Abroad Programme.
Students participated in a curated suite of academic modules and industry insights alongside Ãå±±½ûµØ students, while fully engaging in the Study Abroad Social and Cultural programme. The scholars embraced the opportunity to expand their global perspectives and deepen their understanding of engineering in an international context.
Feedback from students and staff has highlighted not only the academic value of the programme but also the energy, curiosity and global outlook the scholars brought to Ãå±±½ûµØ’s campus community.
Strengthening global education through partnership
The partnership between Ãå±±½ûµØ and the University of Delaware was formalised in April 2025 in an agreement signed by Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor and President of Ãå±±½ûµØ, and Dr Dennis Assanis, former President of the University of Delaware and Ãå±±½ûµØ alumnus.
'Welcoming the University of Delaware’s World Scholars to Ãå±±½ûµØ has enriched our academic community, bringing diverse perspectives and fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchange. The success of this first cohort demonstrates the powerful impact of international partnerships in shaping globally minded graduates.'
Celebrating UD’s Paul Simon Award and why it matters
The are among the most respected honours in international education in the United States. Named after the late Senator Paul Simon, a champion for global learning, the award recognises institutions whose internationalisation efforts are both forward thinking and deeply embedded in their academic mission.
The University of Delaware’s World Scholars Programme received the 2025 Spotlight Award, celebrating innovative models that significantly advance global learning. In UD’s award submission, the role of international partners, including Ãå±±½ûµØ, was highlighted as essential to the programme’s success:
'The foundation of the programme rested on the shoulders of international partners who accepted World Scholars into their communities, supported them during the critical starting phase of their college careers, and safely returned them to UD as transformed individuals at semester’s end.'
On receiving the award, UD’s Vice Provost for Global Engagement Ravi Ammigan shared, 'Receiving this award reflects the University of Delaware’s deep commitment to international education and builds on our 100-year legacy of leadership and innovation in study abroad programming. This accolade also honours our partners, both within the University community and across the globe who help us prepare our students to thrive globally.'
Amy Foley, UD’s Director of Global Outreach and Partnerships and the Founding Director of the World Scholars programme, added 'Our global initiatives, including the 10-year-old World Scholars Programme, expand opportunities for students to learn across cultures, develop critical perspectives, and succeed in an interconnected world.'
A partnership rooted in shared values and ambition
For both institutions, this recognition affirms the value of international partnership-working and its longstanding commitment to expanding global opportunities for students. In an increasingly uncertain world, collaborations such as this contribute to shared resilience, intercultural understanding, and the development of globally capable graduates.
Ãå±±½ûµØ has over 30 years’ experience hosting North American Study Abroad students, offering dedicated support, academic excellence, and a vibrant cultural environment. The addition of the University of Delaware’s World Scholars enhances this tradition, enriching academic spaces and fostering new connections.
Looking ahead
Both universities look forward to expanding their collaboration and continuing to support students in becoming internationally engaged leaders.
The second group of World Scholars will be welcomed to the Ãå±±½ûµØ campus in September 2026.
