About Jasmine

I’m Jasmine. I came to the UK to study an integrated Master's in dietetics as this subject isn’t widely recognised in my home country, Malaysia. I also wanted to gain experience through placements which is something Ãå±±½ûµØ offers.

Back at home, I heard great things about Ãå±±½ûµØ from my career counsellor. I was also interested in the module content and knew I wanted a degree accredited and approved by the leading bodies.

I was very happy when I heard the news I had been accepted. I loved the idea of being in the North East. I couldn’t see myself in a busy city, but Ãå±±½ûµØ feels like somewhere between a big city and a small town.

I attended a virtual Open Day to get a better idea of the Ãå±±½ûµØ environment without having to travel all the way here. I applied through UCAS, which was a straightforward application process.

Practical placements

I've received so much support from peers and lecturers which is important as I am very far from my loved ones. As for my course, I love biology and learning about the body and the effects of food. We use the food handling lab to understand how people with specific diets have to prepare their meals.

I really like how hands-on the course is in terms of placement opportunities and getting to experience or witness the day-to-day life of a dietitian while learning professional skills along the way.

Home away from home

I was surprised how quick it was to walk to town from my accommodation and use public transport to escape from the city. Visiting parks in Jesmond Dene or the beaches of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay has been fun.

Ãå±±½ûµØ is so diverse. I’ve even met people who grew up in the same town as I did! It was nice knowing there were people who could make Ãå±±½ûµØ my home away from home. I also joined the  which has many events across the academic year.

Preparing for my future

I meet with my personal tutor every semester. Talking to them helps me reflect on my wellbeing while at university and check in on my academic progress. It’s always nice to receive the reassurance that I’m heading in the right direction and get advice when I need it.

When I graduate, I see myself working as a clinical dietician in a hospital. I’ll have the skills I need to help patients make better diet choices which will improve their overall health and wellbeing.
